Currently not available online.

Pre-Registration for this program is Required.

Island Alpaca Discovery Program is a wonderful way to learn more about alpaca and is a terrific farm experience for people of all ages. Every participant will learn the basics of alpaca care, as well as where alpaca come from and why they are important to us.

Participants go behind the scenes and get involved in hands-on activities such as barn chores, feeding, halter training, and, if luck should have it, witness the birth of a new herd member.

Participants will meet the entire herd, including our new baby, and two from last summer.

SPECIAL NOTE: Please call before the farm before to reserve, as we we have them on pause due until further notice.

This is an opportunity to see and experience the alpaca in a way they would not have by just visiting the farm. One can see how sweet and gentle they are by interacting with them, and literally get your hands on them to see how luxurious, and soft their fleece is!

Alpaca Discovery is a fun farm experience for any alpaca lover age 14 or older; (Younger participants welcomed with attending parent/guardian.) One child under the age of 14 per attending parent/guardian and all participants will share an alpaca during walking period). Alpaca Discovery is also perfect for adults who are thinking about owning alpaca, or just curious to learn more about them. Come and discover the world of the alpaca!

Program Time: Join us for an exciting session of Alpaca Discovery available most days, 10-11 (Pre-registration required, 2 person class minimum). Adults welcome! Rain or Shine!

Registration: Cost is $35 per person per session. Payments may be made by telephone, online, or by check (payable to Island Alpaca Co.) or in person at the farm prior to program day, or by mail.

A testimonial from some former participants:

"Love Animals? You will Love this!! Animal lovers beware.... this may make you want an alpaca as a pet! Our family of 8 (including 2 seniors) just loved this adventure. We signed up for the morning Discovery Class at the Alpaca Company, a working farm, housing upwards of 70 alpacas. With the guidance of Ashley, a supremely mature, knowledgeable and dedicated animal care taker, we met the "boys and girls", fed them, and eventually were able to walk them like giant dogs in a parade! Ashley knew all their names and personalities, hugged them like they were puppies and shared a wealth of information with us about these gentle creatures. The animals are obviously very well cared for, and we learned that walking some of the "little boys" is actually beneficial to them as several are show quality and must learn to tolerate humans and handling. Their wool is used to create some of the materials in the gift shop, and for folks who don't want to do the discovery class a viewing area is available for a small fee. Check it out!!"    -- Wendy, L. Evanston, Illinois. (Visited July, 2014)

"Barbara, Jeff and I had an amazing time on your farm.  I thank you so much for hosting us for my best birthday ever. My highest compliments go out to your staff: Ivy and Ashleigh.

They were both professional and down to earth. They were able to answer all of our questions and truly offered an outstanding experience for us both. I look forward to the day that I move into my house with land so I, too, may become an alpaca owner. I think we even convinced my husband that alpacas are wonderful, quiet animals that are so worth owning. I was also grateful to have the chance to meet you, too. I wish you a happy, productive rest of the year and look forward to visiting again very soon (so I can see the animals
with full fleece!)." -- Terrie, Pepperell,  MA
