Caring for a Alpaca Fur Product
Brushing:
Gently brush your alpaca fur pillow cover using a bamboo or plastic-bristle pet brush or a soft hairbrush. Avoid wire brushes. Brushing helps restore fluffiness if the fur becomes matted from handling over time.Storage:
If storing your alpaca fur item, keep it out of direct sunlight and store it in a cool, airy place. Avoid storing it in plastic bags, as alpaca fur needs to breathe. Plastic can trap moisture and cause condensation in warm conditions, which may damage the fur or leather backing.Cleaning:
Alpaca fur is not machine washable and should never be submerged in water. For a full cleaning, take it to a professional furrier or cleaner.
For small spills or spot cleaning, use a sponge with a mild soap-and-water solution. Avoid saturating the leather backing—use only enough liquid to clean the fur’s surface. Allow it to air dry naturally, or use a hair dryer on a low-temperature setting, then gently brush to re-fluff.Freshening:
To keep your alpaca fur smelling fresh, sprinkle it lightly with talcum powder from time to time, then brush gently to remove any excess.Special Note:
Our fur bears, toys, and other fur products are made from real alpaca fur. No alpacas are harmed for this purpose. Due to environmental conditions in South America, alpaca mortality rates can be high, and the fur is repurposed to help compensate for this loss.
